Railway minister Suresh Prabhu has announced that Indian Rail is on track to start operations in a new track system for trains.
He made the announcement at a meeting of the National Railways Board (NRB) at Hyderabad on Friday.
The NRB will now take over the work of building the new track for the trains, he said.
Prabhukar Joshi, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had also visited the NRB to inaugurate the project.
The new track will be a single, parallel track running parallel to the existing track and is scheduled to be operational by March 2019.
This is the first phase of a project for the construction of a single parallel track for trains that will be operational in 2023, according to the railway ministry.
The new track is expected to increase the efficiency of the railway and reduce the cost of running trains.
Pradhan Mantri Krishi Vikas Yojana, which is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and cost of railway activities, has also been set up under the National Railway Plan 2017.
The National Rail Plan is a programme for improving the operational efficiency of railways.
The railway ministry said that the work on the project is being done by the NR.
“The construction of the track is under NR.
The track is being constructed in three phases and we are now getting the approvals for all the phases.
There will be no need to run the trains to other stations.
There are a total of 11,000 train passengers on the trains,” Prabhan said.
“We have to get approval for all 11,200 trains.
So, the trains will be running at maximum speed.
They will also be able access the other stations,” he said, adding that the project was being carried out with the help of the Department of Railways (DR) of Uttar.
The DR was the nodal agency for the project and was tasked with preparing the plans for the entire project, he added.
Prabhuchar Josh said the railway was now on track.
“This is an ambitious project.
The construction is being undertaken by the private sector and the Government of India is helping us to get the project done,” he added, adding, “I hope the NR will help us in achieving this ambitious objective.”
The state government will also work with the NR to implement the projects.
“Our aim is to get this project started soon.
We have a strong track network in Uttar Pradesh.
The tracks are well maintained.
The railway has done the work to build the new line.
The railways have also been asked to help us build the track,” he claimed.
