The focus type can make a difference for the user experience.
Focus types that are not associated with your main screen focus point and can also be used to open a separate tab can be useful for users looking for information.
For example, the Focus Type indicator on the Settings app on iOS 10 lets you know how many apps you have open.
It is available for all apps on your iOS device, but you can only select one type of focus for each app.
Focus is an important attribute when it comes to your users’ interaction with your apps, so be sure to use the right type of pointer for each focus type.
For more about focus types, read How to choose the right pointer for your apps.
There are other important points to consider when selecting a focus type, too.
Focus points are important because they are used to select focus options for the focus of a tab.
For instance, you may be focusing on a specific location and want to choose which apps are open there.
For a focus on a particular app, you want to use a focus point that is within the app’s main focus area.
Focus on a secondary location may also be useful to have as the primary focus point for a given tab, but be sure not to select a focus location that is too close to the primary one.
The app should have a minimum focus size of 20 pixels.
If the app doesn’t have a focus size greater than this, the focus type will be ignored.
If your focus type is not displayed on the lock screen, the app should not be selected by the user.
To select a specific app, tap it with your finger.
If you choose to lock the app and then switch back to the main screen, you will need to use your finger to select it again.
Once the user selects an app, the device locks and locks the app.
This means that focus is no longer available for that app, so it cannot be selected in the main menu.
If a focus is selected for a particular tab, it is only accessible from the tab itself.
You can’t select a tab or other app that is locked in the same way.
If an app has multiple focus points, the user will need both of them to be selected.
To see which focus type an app is currently in, tap the app icon.
When the focus icon is selected, the main app menu appears, showing a list of focus options.
Tap the focus you want.
If all the focus options are selected, tap a focus option and choose the focus that you want the app to focus on.
When an app or tab is focused, the tab appears in the app menu, as shown below.
In some cases, the icon will change to indicate the app is in the focus mode.
Tap on the app or the tab to switch to the focus in the menu.
The focus will continue to be active in the tab.
In this example, we are selecting the focus on the Find My Friends app.
You will need two focus points to select this focus.
For each of the apps, the first focus point is the one on the bottom right, with the name of the app highlighted.
The second focus point appears in a separate line to the right of the second focus, next to the Find Your Friends icon.
In the above example, there is only one focus point.
If more than one focus is available, you can select the one that has the highest focus level.
When you tap on the Focus icon, a new tab opens.
The main menu is the tab that was opened.
You need to make sure the focus is active again to see which app is focused.
To switch focus, tap on a tab again.
The tab will switch to its focus in this menu, shown below, as seen by the icon.
If there is still no focus, the menu will switch back.
The user can now see the app that was focused.
If any focus is present, it will change the focus to the tab’s focus.
The menu also displays the name and description of the tab, as you would expect.
You may want to change the menu to show a different icon or a different view of the tabs main focus menu.
To close the tab or app, swipe from the top of the main tab or the app bar to the left of the icon or menu.
Apps and tabs that are focused on other tabs, but still show focus on their own app, will not be available to the user, unless they select the tab from the main focus list.
To get back to your main focus, you have to select the app from the menu again.
If only one app is selected from the focus list, the next app will be selected from that list.
If two apps are selected from your main menu, the second app will appear as the focus focus for the current app.
If multiple apps are focused in the default tab or focus menu, you cannot select the first app in the list
