President Donald Trump is taking credit for the latest on the FBI’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, but he doesn’t seem to be taking any credit for getting the probe under control.
“We’re very focused on finding out what the truth is and what’s happening,” Trump said in a press conference Tuesday morning, calling the investigation a “witch hunt.”
Trump added that his Justice Department is not “in a position to comment on a matter that’s still under investigation.”
“The investigation is continuing and I am very proud of that,” Trump continued.
The president’s assertion that he is “not talking about any single individual” is not surprising given the fact that he’s already said he’s going to make a lot of arrests and that he intends to move quickly to make sure that those arrested are prosecuted.
Trump also said he is not talking to anyone from the Clinton campaign, saying the “political party” and Clinton herself have no involvement in the investigation.
But the president said he doesn-t think he will be able to get to the bottom of the Russian meddling because he is under investigation by a “very, very special” prosecutor.
“I think we’re not going to get it done,” Trump told reporters.
“And I think that the whole thing has been very, very badly handled,” Trump added.
“It has been handled terribly.”
